Lebanese security officials have failed to protect peaceful demonstrations going on in the country the security forces have used excessive forces several times to disperse the demonstrators.Lebanese red cross has stated that it has treated more than 1,702 people between October 17 and October 30.
STATUS OF WOMEN IN LEBANON
Lebanese women have long been leaders in the country’s protest movements. Lebanon has 15 separate personal status laws for the country’s recognized religions, all of them discriminate against women.Under religious personal status laws Lebanon allows child marriage including girls as young as 9 years of age.
LEBANON'S OUTDATED NATIONALITY LAW
The Lebanese law prohibits women married to foreigners by denying citizenship to their children and spouses, but not to the foreign spouses and children of Lebanese men. The law affects families’ legal residency and access to work, education, social services, and health care. It even leaves some children at risk of statelessness.
